Day 1: Sunday, September 20
Today we make our way to Vacationland! Be prepared for a long day traveling, with lunch on your own, as we make our way North to the mountain village of Bethel, Maine. We will check into a lovely Sunday River, a mountainside resort on the outskirts of Bethel for two nights. The resort features a heated outdoor pool and whirlpool and beautiful walking trails.
Enjoy a welcome reception upon arrival and dinner at the resort this evening.

Day 2: Monday, September 21
Breakfast is at the resort this morning.
Our first stop will be at Maine Line Products for a sample of their homemade fudge and a chance to purchase Maine-made souvenirs.
Then, we will tour the new interactive Maine Mineral & Gem Museum where mineral specimens, gemstones, and historical items tell the story of Maine’s mining history. We will also get to see some rare meteorite specimens and hold rocks from the Moon and Mars!
Lunch on our own at a local Bethel restaurant.
We will return to the resort for free time before regrouping later in the afternoon for a guided two-hour moose-watching tour at Grafton Notch State Park. Stop for foliage photos at mountain overlooks and a local covered bridge. Our guide will select locations where you are likely to spot a moose.
Dinner will be at the resort this evening, followed by a campfire with S’mores.

Day 3: Tuesday, September 22
Breakfast is at the resort this morning.
After leaving Sunday River, we will try our hand at a mineral and gemstone sluicing program. Learn about the gemstones, including Maine Tourmaline, commonly found in this area.
We will make our way to Bar Harbor with lunch on our own along the way.
We will have free time in Bar Harbor to explore the waterfront shops and parks before checking into the Bar Harbor Regency Hotel; a beautiful resort property overlooking scenic Frenchman’s Bay. We will spend two nights here. The hotel is located one mile from downtown Bar Harbor.
Don your souvenir Maine Lobster Hat for a traditional Maine lobster-bake dinner tonight at the hotel. Bring a hearty appetite to this Downeast feast! There will be alternative options for landlubbers.

Day 4: Friday, September 23
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel this morning before a two-hour Nature Cruise. Search for eagles, porpoises, seals, and other marine mammals and birds while sightseeing on Frenchman’s Bay. Pass by Egg Rock Lighthouse and the breathtaking scenery of coastal Maine and Acadia National Park.
Next, enjoy a Box Lunch before meeting our local guide for an afternoon tour of Acadia National Park. Here, in the first national park founded east of the Mississippi, we will see 9 mountains over 1000 feet high, stone bridges, lakes, ponds, trails, and carriage roads. We will ride along the entire Park Loop Road and wind our way to the top of Cadillac Mountain for stunning views. Enjoy crashing waves at Thunder Hole and visit Sieur De Mont Springs Wild Gardens of Acadia. Learn all about the rich and famous visitors who built summer “cottages” in Bar Harbor.
After saying goodbye to our guide, we head to a unique Maine entertainment experience; the Great Maine Lumberjack Show. Witness the “Olympics of the Forest”. Lumberjacks and loggers will engage in a traditional “logging camp competition,” just like they did over 100 years ago in the Maine woods. Listen to the big crosscut saws singing in the forest. Watch the thrilling lumberjack sports of wood chopping, sawing, tree climbing, ax throwing, and everyone’s favorite… log rolling! All exhibited with a modern twist, mixed with history, comedy, and audience participation.
We return to the Atlantic Oceanside Hotel for your second night and feast on another wonderful dinner before enjoying the rest of your evening at leisure.

Day 5 – Thursday, September 24, 2026

We will travel a short distance to Damariscotta, the oyster capital of New England to enjoy a Damariscotta River Cruise. This special aquaculture outing includes an oyster farm and seal watching.
Next, we travel south to Ogunquit, Maine – “Beautiful place by the Sea” for two nights. Enjoy a welcome reception upon arrival at the Ogunquit River Inn. The hotel features an outdoor heated pool. Enjoy the salty ocean breeze from the shoreline behind the hotel. Large decks look out on a waterfall and shore birds forage along the marsh.
En route to dinner we will make a stop for a photo of Maine’s southernmost lighthouse, the Nubble Light in Cape Neddick near York Beach. From Nubble Light we will also spot the infamous Boon Island Lighthouse, located just offshore.
